Web Domains

Serve capture pages on your own custom domain

Web domains allow you to serve your capture pages on a custom domain (e.g., pages.yourdomain.com or subscribe.yourdomain.com) instead of the default Lumail.io subdomain.

Why Use a Custom Web Domain?

  • Brand Consistency: Your capture pages appear on your own domain
  • Trust: Visitors see your domain in the URL bar
  • SEO Benefits: Build domain authority on your own domain
  • Professional Appearance: Remove third-party branding from URLs

Adding a Web Domain

  1. Go to Domains in your organization settings
  2. Click Add Web Domain
  3. Enter your subdomain (e.g., pages.yourdomain.com)
  4. Click Create

Each plan includes a fixed number of web domains: 1 on Free and Creator, 3 on Pro, 5 on Business. Capture pages still work on the default Lumail URL if you hit the cap. When you do, Upgrade opens the billing plan page.

DNS Configuration

After adding your domain, configure a CNAME record at your domain registrar:

That is the only record. Do not point the domain at a raw VPS IP.

Verification Process

  1. Add the CNAME at your DNS provider
  2. Return to Lumail.io and click Check DNS Records Status
  3. SSL is issued automatically once the CNAME is live

Using Your Web Domain

Once verified, your capture pages are automatically available at your custom domain:

  • Before: lumail.io/p/your-org/page-slug
  • After: pages.yourdomain.com/page-slug

All existing capture page links continue to work. The custom domain is an additional way to access your pages.

Apex Domains vs Subdomains

Use a subdomain like pages.yourdomain.com or subscribe.yourdomain.com:

Apex Domains

For apex domains (e.g., yourdomain.com without a subdomain), create a CNAME or ALIAS for @ to cname.lumail.io. This requires CNAME flattening (Cloudflare DNS) or an ALIAS/ANAME record. A plain A record will not work.

Subdomains are recommended.

Troubleshooting

Domain stuck on "Pending"

  • Check CNAME: It must be cname.lumail.io
  • DNS Propagation: Wait up to 48 hours for DNS changes to propagate
  • Use dig: Run dig pages.yourdomain.com to check if the record exists

SSL Certificate Issues

Lumail creates the Cloudflare custom hostname with HTTP DCV and routes origin TLS through cname.lumail.io so Cloudflare does not 526 on the customer hostname. Click Check Verification Status if you still see Error 526 — that retriggers the certificate and origin SNI.

  • The CNAME must be cname.lumail.io
  • If the domain is already on Cloudflare, keep the CNAME DNS-only (grey cloud) unless you know you want orange-cloud / O2O
  • Confirm there is no conflicting A record
